After my first visit to Shambala festival in 2023, I knew I needed to up my costume game!

Every festival there is a “Flamboyant Friday”. In 2024 the theme was PINK!

I decided to go as a mermaid, and what mermaid is complete without a trident.

I started with a stick I’d kept from a forest walk, added a bunch of sculpture staples (cardboard, string, poly-filler), gold leaf, gems and some bits I’d collected form the beach.

The turquoise detail was a bit of an after thought but a much needed visual contrast to the pink. I mixed together a grassy green with the turquoise in a mixture of sand and PVA glue for texture, dry brushing it on to pick out some of the relief detail.
